Household car ownership in Albania - 09/03/2009

- 32 % of households in Albania declare to own at least one car
- 44% of households' cars are “Mercedes Benz”
Households owning at least one carThese are the results that come out from a national survey of 1000 households in Albania. Taking into account the figure of projected population calculated from INSTAT (3.170.048 inhabitants as of 2008) and assuming an average of 4 members per household, it comes out that there are approximately 755 000 households in Albania. According to the January survey about 242 000 households, out of the above mentioned number, claim to have at least one car in possession.

Looking deeper into the data, the percentage of households in URBAN areas declaring to own a car is about 36%, compared to 26% in RURAL areas.

The survey does not confirm the existing “myth”, that the majority of cars used in Albania are of Mercedes brand. According to the survey 56% of cars are “non Mercedes” brand. However, Mercedes Benz is by far the most spread car in Albania. Based on declarations of respondents, 44% of the cars owned by Albanian households are Mercedes Benz brand. Volkswagen is the second brand mentioned with 11%.

Car brands owned by householdsThese are the results of IDRA Research & Consulting Omnibus survey, conducted in January 2009. Omnibus survey is conducted every month with a national representative sample of 1000 households all over Albania.
